The Lady Redbacks’ 113-point defeat on Sunday is a 52-point improvement from their last meeting with the Cobras just over a month ago.

Following their 54-point loss to Lake Wendouree the week prior, Carisbrook was keen to make the most of their home-field advantage against Bacchus Marsh, who are trying to keep pace with Redan

and Darley at the top of the BFLW table.

While the Cobras controlled possession for most of the first quarter, the Lady Redbacks produced some promising passages of play when they had the ball, taking some excellent marks.

Their aerial presence also limited the Cobras set shot chances in the first 20 minutes, forcing the visitors to settle for attempts in open play under the constant pressure of the Lady Redbacks’ defence.

Even with some rushed shots, Bacchus Marsh kicked four unanswered goals in the opening term to build a 30-point lead at quarter time.

The Cobras remained in control of the contest in the second quarter, consistently winning the clearance battle and effectively trapping the football once it reached their forward 50.

However, the hosts remained sturdy in defence, only allowing four goals in the second term to limit their half-time deficit to 58 points.

After an encouraging first half, the Lady Redbacks found an extra gear to start the second half. The hosts began to win more of the ball in the contest and increased their pressure across the ground.

That pressure led to the Cobras kicking 2.6 in the third quarter, as the margin sat at 75 points heading into three-quarter time.

The fourth quarter was where Bacchus Marsh started to overrun Carisbrook, finding more space across the ground to attack with some clever leads.

The Cobras stung the Lady Redbacks with six goals in the final quarter to finish as 113-point victors after scoring 16.19.(115) to Carisbrook’s 0.2.(2).

After being listed in the best players against Lake Wendouree, Charlotte Metters once again stood out for the Lady Redbacks, named among the best players alongside Tamika Loone-Grundy, Sarah Lynch, Danae Every, Olivia Butler and Zeann Cassells.

With only four rounds left to play in the BFLW season, Carisbrook will start the tail end of their 2025 campaign with an away trip to Darley to take on the second-placed Devils.

After their 193-point loss to the Devils in round three, Carisbrook improved by 63 points when the two teams met again in round eight, and they will be striving for more improvement on Sunday.
