Carisbrook players were well-represented at the Ballarat Football League Women’s (BFLW) awards, held on Tuesday night.
Both Annika Munn and Sherriden Byrne earned selection on the interchange in the BFLW seniors team of the year, while Rhani Evans earned selection, also on the interchange, in the under 16s team of the year.
For Munn, a standout season saw her named in the best players on 14 of her 16 games as she relished a midfield role which saw her become one of the toughest players in the competition, winning clearances at will, and also having an impact up forward despite a tough season for Carisbrook overall, kicking three goals.
Munn was in the thick of everything in Carisbrook’s best performance of the year, helping guide them to their first win back in the competition against Bacchus Marsh in round 12 with a best on ground performance.
Byrne’s experience was also key for Carisbrook throughout the season as she also relished the opportunity to play football for the Redbacks again, kicking two goals for the year, including the sole goal for the club in their elimination final loss to Lake Wendouree on Sunday, and was named in the best on six occasions out of her 11 games, including the aforementioned win over the Cobras in round 12.
For Evans, her selection in the under 16 team of the year came after a good season, where she was able to finish as the Redbacks’ equal-second leading goalscorer behind Rhiannon Carter, finishing with three goals for the year.
She set the tone to start the season with appearances in the best players in the team’s first three games of the season, which included their first win against Darley, before making another three appearances in the best players.
