Following their encouraging performance against Redan, plus a host of returning players after the BFLW’s bye last weekend, Carisbrook strove to improve from their 70-point defeat at the hands of East Point in round nine.

Those ambitions got off to a brilliant start at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve, when Remi Jardine kicked her first senior goal for the Lady Redbacks in the opening term to give her team a jolt of confidence.

The Dragons responded with four first-quarter goals, heading into quarter time with a 19-point advantage.

After a free-flowing opening term, the second quarter was a hard-fought defensive affair, with both teams trying to slow their opponents with their pressure at the contest.

Emme Johnson was once again excelling in the ruck, allowing Olivia Butler, Sarah Lynch and Maddison Smith to spearhead the Lady Redbacks’ attack thanks to her frequent and clever taps.

Goals weren’t forthcoming for either team in the second term, with the Dragons’ four behinds enough to slightly extend the margin to 22 points by half time.

Neither team relented in their defensive effort to start the second half, with goals remaining at a premium in the third quarter.

The Dragons managed to kick the first goal since the opening quarter midway through the term, which increased their advantage to 31 points at three-quarter time.

Much to Carisbrook’s credit, they remained persistent in the fourth quarter, with Jardine, Butler and Lynch creating opportunities going forward and their defence allowing only one scoring shot in the last 20 minutes.

East Point kicked a goal with that shot, the cherry on top of their sixth win of the season, which finished 6.8.(44) to Carisbrook’s 1.1.(7).

Celebrating her 50th game for the club, Tamika Loone-Grundy extended her hot streak for the Lady Redbacks, named in the best players for a fifth consecutive game due to her fearless intent on the football and tenacious tacking.

She was joined by sole goal-kicker Jardine, Johnson, Butler, Lynch and Smith.

The Lady Redbacks will finish their 2025 campaign at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve, hosting Lake Wendouree on Sunday.

The last time Carisbrook played Lake Wendouree at home was round six, when some accurate goal kicking from the Lakers kept a highly competitive Lady Redbacks at bay, eventually winning by 25 points.
