A fast start by East Point on Sunday saw them take a 70-point victory over Carisbrook, but the Lady Redbacks’ fight in the final three quarters was admirable.
East Point’s first quarter essentially made up half of the eventual winning margin, kicking five goals to nil to open up a 33-point lead at the first break.
Carisbrook were able to get their defence going in the second term, and were able to stop East Point from scoring at will in the second term, holding them to two goals. However, the Lady Redbacks were unable to make any indent on the scoreboard, and the margin was 49 at the main break.
The third quarter was a dour struggle, with East Point scoring just one goal to extend their lead to 56 points at the final change.
Two more goals to East Point in the final term saw the margin go out to 70 points, although the performance of the Lady Redbacks in the final three quarters will help hold them in good stead ahead of a winnable home game with Bacchus Marsh next week.
Olivia Butler was the Lady Redbacks’ best, with Julianne Baldock, Grace Love, Caitlin Butler, Anika Munn and Zeanna Cassells also in the best players.
