After a tough couple of weeks, Carisbrook will look to bounce back when they play Lake Wendouree on Sunday afternoon as they work to gain consistency. Last weekend was always going to be a difficult task for Carisbrook as they came up against the unbeaten Darley, who have established themselves as one of the main chances of the premiership.
A nine-goal to zero first quarter did not help Carisbrook’s cause, and 22 further goals throughout the final three quarters meant that the Lady Redbacks went down by 207 points.
The better performers for the Lady Redbacks saw Sherriden Byrne, Anika Munn, Tara Curtis, Olivia Butler, Amali Allbutt and Danae Every play well.
The task now will be to stay with Lake Wendouree, who will have their tails up after securing their first win of the season last week against East Point.
Meantime, the under 16s girls gave it their all against Redan, but fell just eight points short of a breakthrough victory in what was a terrific performance against the ladder-leaders.
The Lady Redbacks were just two points down at half time, but a goal to Redan in the third quarter made it a difficult task for them to break through for their first win of the season.
Nevertheless, Carisbrook gave it a big go, and were rewarded when Olivia Rogers kicked a goal in the last quarter. But it wasn’t quite enough to overhaul Redan, who eventually won 1.8 (14) to 1.0 (6).
Tiani Jardine, Georgina Bates, Emme Johnson, Rhani Evans, Remi Jardine and Lilli Gale were all named in the best for Carisbrook.
The Lady Redbacks will give themselves a big chance to take their first win this week when they play winless Darley, who are in last position on the ladder.
On evidence of their performance against Redan, a similar level of effort will see the Lady Redbacks potentially secure the win they have been longing for.
