A redrawn Ballarat Football League Women’s (BFLW) competition means Carisbrook will be represented in round one, travelling to East Point for the opening game of their season this Sunday.
The opportunity to play came about after North Ballarat withdrew from the season, with the draw quickly redone ahead of the start of the BFLW competition this weekend.
Thankfully for the Lady Redbacks, it means that they will also be able to play consistently without the need for any byes across the season, having originally had to wait another week before they were able to take to the park.
Carisbrook, therefore, will be eager to test themselves against the Kangaroos after steadily reducing their margins of defeat across the season in 2023, and, as a result, gained competitiveness against a team which eventually bowed out in the semi-final stage.
The Lady Redbacks were unable to score in what was a tough initiation in their return to the BFLW competition in round one, losing by 121 points, but in round nine, had a very encouraging afternoon when they scored two goals in a 62-point loss.
Their last meeting was in round 11 last season, where the Lady Redbacks were powerless to stop a 70-point defeat.
Nevertheless, Carisbrook will be looking forward to unleashing a number of new recruits as they hope to make an indent on the BFLW competition after a competitive season in 2023 which ended with a good performance in the elimination final.
The club faces a tough start with both East Point and Lake Wendouree away from home to start the season, but will receive a good opportunity to string together some good form with a run of five consecutive home games from round three to seven.
Meantime, Carisbrook’s under 16 season will get underway this weekend with a clash against North Ballarat.
The game is scheduled to be played at Mars Stadium at 12.20 pm tomorrow afternoon at the time of production, but indications are that the game will likely be moved.
The two teams’ sole meeting in the under 16 competition last year came in round eight, with North Ballarat winning by 52 points.
The Lady Redbacks will be looking to build on what was an improved season in 2023, winning four games.
