It was a tough day for both Carisbrook Lady Redback teams at home on Sunday as they were unable to match it with North Ballarat.

The under 18s had a particularly tough day, going down by 112 points to the second placed Roosters, while the under 14s put in a respectable effort against the dominant table-topping side, restricting them to just eight goals for the morning.

In the 18s, a large portion of the damage was done in the first quarter as North Ballarat ran riot, kicking seven goals to open up a 45-point lead at quarter-time.

To the Lady Redbacks’ credit, they were able to stem the tide in a big way in the second quarter, restricting the Roosters to just three scoring shots. They would trail by 58 points at half time.

The third quarter saw North Ballarat kick four goals to nil, which saw the Roosters extend their margin to 86 points by the final change, and another four goals in the final quarter eventually saw them run out 112-point winners.

Despite the loss, the Lady Redbacks were well served by Mary Fitzgibbon, Tara McBean, Olivia Butler, Tara Kennedy, Rhiannon Carter and Chelcee Whittingslow.

It was a reasonably similar story in the under 14s game where most of the damage was done in the first quarter, before Carisbrook were able to slow the Roosters’ rate of scoring down.

Four goals to nil in the first quarter saw the Roosters open up a handy 27-point lead at the first change, but the Lady Redbacks were able to restrict them to two goals in the second quarter to ensure they’d limit the damage to 43 points at half time.

The third quarter saw Carisbrook hit the scoreboard, albeit with two behinds. However, they were able to frustrate the North Ballarat forward line by restricting them to just one goal of their own for the quarter, and trailed by 49 points at the final change.

The Lady Redbacks were again able to hold their own in the final quarter, restricting the Roosters to just one goal as they eventually fell by 55 points — however, given they trailed by 43 points at half time, it was a very impressive second-half effort.

Tahlia Jordan, Rhani Evans, Imogen Raats, Tamika Loone-Grundy, Lexey Hoober and Remi Jardine were best for Carisbrook.

Just three rounds remain in the season for the under 14s, while the under 18s have two games remaining. The under 18s have a rematch with North Ballarat this week at home, while the under 14s will be hosting Darley.
