Carisbrook will be looking to continue an encouraging run of form when they run into the red-hot Redan this weekend.

The Lady Redbacks had a good crack at things against Darley, and for the first time since their return last season, were able to hold the Devils to under 100 points, which can be seen as another step forward.

It’s a credit to the defensive structure of the Lady Redbacks that they were able to hold Darley to just two goals in the second term and one in the last term, and 13 overall for the day, and while Darley ultimately did have 33 scoring shots, they were wasteful in front of goal.

Jade Cameron kicked the Lady Redbacks’ sole goal of the day, while Anika Munn, Deanne Evans, Julianne Baldock, Tiani Jardine, Olivia Butler and Isabella Hoban were also named in the best.

The challenge now will be to improve on the last meeting with Redan, which was in round four earlier this season, a game which saw the Lions win by 118 points.

It will certainly be a challenge for the Lady Redbacks to contain the ladder leaders, who are taking all before them this season with a percentage of 1254, owing to them conceding just 50 points across the season so far, while scoring 627 of their own.

That included the Lions holding Lake Wendouree scoreless, just as they did to the Lady Redbacks in that round four clash.

Nevertheless, the Lady Redbacks should rightfully be confident of another good showing this weekend.

The under 16s will also be hoping for a good effort when they play for the Lions on Sunday morning.

The Lady Redbacks were unable to provide a match for North Ballarat, who are comfortably sitting on top of the ladder, last week, although they were able to restrict the Roosters to 11 goals.

The Lady Redbacks’ last clash against Redan saw them lose by 53 points in round two, but will be hopeful of providing a closer clash this time around.

Last week, Tahlia Jordan, Emme Johnson, Ava Bartlett, Laylah Smith, Eden Weaver and Olivia Rogers were all named in the best, and they’ll look to continue their good form to try grab the Lady Redbacks’ first win of the season.
