While the result didn’t go their way, it was a relief for the Carisbrook Lady Redbacks to get back out on the field as a senior team in their 42-point loss to Bacchus Marsh.
It was a good showing in any case, given the amount of women that were playing their first game with the club, and will look to be better for the run.
It was a good start by Bacchus Marsh as they kicked the opening goal of the contest to take a nine-point lead at quarter time.
The second quarter belonged to Carisbrook, however. While Bacchus Marsh were able to add a second goal, Carisbrook hit back by kicking two goals for the quarter, with Sherriden Byrne kicking a goal, as well as Gillian Tierney, which closed the margin to four points at the main break.
However, Bacchus Marsh showed their class in the second half. They would kick two goals to no score in the third quarter to get out to an 18-point lead at the final break, before kicking a further four goals in the final quarter to blow the margin out to 42 points.
Carisbrook had their strong performers for the day.
Amali Allbutt played well, while Byrne also performed strongly throughout. Danae Every, Anika Munn and Grace Love were also named in the best players.
The Lady Redbacks will look to bounce back next week when they travel to East Point, while the under 16s will kick off their season next week after having the bye in round one when they take on Ballarat Swans.
