Lady Redbacks continue showing improvement
The Carisbrook Lady Redbacks showed great improvement on Sunday, battling hard on home soil against the BFLW reigning premiers, the Darley Devils.
The Lady Redbacks’ 130-point loss is a 63-point improvement from when these teams clashed just over a month ago.
The Devils, keen to continue their undefeated start to 2025, took control of the game almost immediately, kicking seven goals in the opening term to build a 44-point advantage at quarter time.
The Lady Redbacks upped their pressure on the Devils’ ball handlers in the second quarter, resulting in scoring shots going wayward, but the visitors still managed to put another five goals on the scoreboard to extend the margin to 79 points.
Carisbrook continued to improve as the contest wore on, grabbing more of the ball out of the contest and showcasing strong resistance in defence to start the second half.
Darley only managed five scoring shots in the third quarter, with three of those chances turning into goals as their lead expanded to 98 points at the final break.
Even as the Devils started to overrun the Lady Redbacks in the final quarter, the host’s determined intent forced the Devils to rush their chances, kicking 4.8 in the last term.
It didn’t dampen Darley’s mood after the game, finishing on 19.17 (131) to Carisbrook’s 0.1 (1).
Danae Every and Sarah Lynch continue to impress for the Lady Redbacks, named in the best players.
They were named alongside Abbey Bertram and Sherriden Byrne, who’s also on a good run once again of form.
The Lady Redbacks are back on the road this Sunday, travelling to White Flat Recreation Reserve for a round five rematch against East Point.
