If Sunday is any guide, Carisbrook are edging closer to securing a long-awaited victory in the Ballarat Football League Women’s competition.

It was a third-quarter onslaught which prevented Carisbrook from taking victory against Bacchus Marsh, with the Cobras kicking three goals to no score in that timeframe to help them secure a 19-point victory.

Before that, however, it seemed like a game that would be tight throughout.

Both teams hit the scoreboard in the opening term, with Bacchus Marsh adding three behinds to take a narrow three-point lead at the first change.

While the second quarter was tight, it was the Cobras that ultimately made the most of their opportunities, adding another goal, while holding the Lady Redbacks scoreless to extend their margin to nine points at the main break.

The Cobras came out full of energy in the second half, and were able to kick three goals from eight scoring shots to snuff out any hopes for the Lady Redbacks, sitting 32 points clear at the final change.

Pleasingly, Carisbrook ran the game out well, kicking two goals in the final term to reduce the margin to 19 by the end of the game.

Julianne Baldock, Olivia Butler and Anika Munn were Carisbrook’s best players, while Butler, Grace Love and Munn were the Lady Redbacks’ goalkickers for the day.

The Lady Redbacks are on the road again in two weeks time when they travel to East Point.
