Carisbrook’s first season back in the Ballarat Football League Women’s competition is over, but not without a good fight against Lake Wendouree on Sunday.

In essence, it was really the second and third quarters where the Lakers proved too strong, but the first and last quarters gave the Lady Redbacks a good account of themselves.

Both teams went goalless in the opening term, but the Lakers were proving more fruitful up forward, kicking six behinds to no score to lead by six points at the opening change.

The Lakers were able to get their game going in the second term, kicking four goals while Carisbrook added no score, which meant that it was a 32-point gap at the main break.

In the third term, it was a good battle as the Lady Redbacks tried to will their way back into the contest, but the Lakers were still able to generate good opportunities, and were rewarded with two goals to extend the margin to 44 points at the last change.

In the last quarter, Carisbrook were rewarded with a goal, as a goalmouth scramble saw Sherriden Byrne get her boot to the ball on the goalline for the Lady Redbacks’ only goal of the game.

While the Lady Redbacks eventually went down by 44 points, and no best players were selected at the time of print deadline, Anika Munn played a terrific game through the midfield, as did Olivia Butler, while Danae Every fought hard.
