Lady Redbacks begin 2026
The Carisbrook Lady Redbacks opened their 2026 season last Saturday with a tough away trip against last season’s runner-up Redan.
After a winless 2025 campaign, the Lady Redbacks looked to put their best foot forward and show improvement against a team they were unable to score against last season.
A point in the first quarter allowed Carisbrook to break their scoring drought against the Lions, who were limited to five goals in the first quarter against the persistent Lady Redbacks pressure.
Redan was able to break through Carisbrook’s defensive structure with more efficiency in the second term, increasing their 35-point quarter-time advantage to 76 points at halftime with six unanswered goals.
The Lady Redbacks continued to battle into the second half, but the Lions forward line, led by Jess Bokma and Ellen Werts, settled into a commanding rhythm, kicking a further six goals in the third quarter.
Despite their 119-point deficit at three-quarter time, Carisbrook remained motivated to compete against the premiership contenders, successfully slowing down Redan’s scoring rate while earning another point for their efforts.
With four goals in the fourth, Redan finished on 21.23.149 to Carisbrook’s 0.2.2.
Quetta Holloway-Jinks impressed in her return for the Lady Redbacks, named among the best players alongside Fern Winnell, Charlotte Metters, Olivia Butler, Sherriden Byrne and Danae Every.
Following the Easter Long Weekend, the Lady Redbacks will return to the field on Sunday, April 12, at MARS Stadium to take on East Point, a team they were highly competitive against last season.
After the killer B’s Butler and Byrne scored two goals each against the Dragons in round nine, Carisbrook produced a fantastic performance against last season’s preliminary finalists, going down by just 37 points in round 15 after Remi Jardine booted her first senior goal for the club.
