The Carisbrook Lady Redbacks returns to the field for the last month of the season seeking more wins to add to their list, starting with a home game against East Point on Sunday.
The Lady Redbacks have met the Kangaroos twice this season, and have been quite competitive against them. As a result, they will back themselves to try to get their second win of the year.
In round one, East Point led at half time by just four points, with both teams having kicked one goal for the half, but a two-goal to zero second term allowed the Kangaroos to clear away to eventually record a 23-point victory.
In round six, the two teams met for a second time, this time under lights at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve, and while East Point were steady in kicking four goals, the Lady Redbacks were able to generate more shots at goal than the last meeting, and got the goal they deserved in the last term through Rachael Stubbings. Eventually, Carisbrook would go down by 19 points.
Two weeks ago, the Lady Redbacks had a tough assignment against a Bacchus Marsh team who were able to field one of their strongest lineups of the year, and as a result, went down by 58 points, going scoreless for the afternoon.
Tara Curtis, Sarah Lynch, Tiani Jardine, Shelley Feilding, Caitlin Butler and Grace Brady were all named in the best.
This week will be the second-last home game for the Lady Redbacks this season, with important clashes against Lake Wendouree away from home, as well as their final home game against Bacchus Marsh, other opportunities for the Lady Redbacks to score more wins.
Meantime, the under 16s will look to score their first victory of the season with a home game against the Ballarat Swans, who currently lie in fourth place.
This will be the second meeting between the two teams at Carisbrook this season, having already met in round four.
On that occasion, Ballarat took a 69-point victory, scoring four goals in each of the third and last quarters to blow the margin out.
Carisbrook’s sole goal of the day came through Ava Bartlett, who was also best on ground for the Lady Redbacks, while Emme Johnson, Amber Hogarth, Tamika Loone-Grundy, Erika Arce and Olivia Rogers were also named in the best.
Two weeks ago, the Lady Redbacks were able to have a competitive outing against Bacchus Marsh, losing by 35 points, but they were able to win the last quarter by two points after kicking two final quarter goals.
Johnson, Chloe Wyatt, Loone-Grundy, Rogers, Eden Weaver and Remi Jardine were all named in the best that morning.
