Election results for Ripon could be in as soon as this week, with Labor’s Martha Haylett further increasing her lead in the local seat.
The latest data from the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) from Sunday night shows Ms Haylett has 38.5 percent of primary first preference votes (16,260), ahead of the Liberal’s Louise Staley with 36 percent (15,245).
In the two candidate preferred system, which provides an early indication of election results, Ms Haylett leads with 52.9 percent, followed by Ms Staley with 47 percent.
One of the most marginal seats in the state, Ms Staley retained the seat in the 2018 election by just 15 votes following a recount and since then, the electoral boundary has been expanded to include outlying sections of Ballarat.
According to the VEC, a result in close seats will not be known until preference distributions are conducted from today, Tuesday, December 6, meaning official election results could be revealed this week.
