LAANECOORIE DUNOLLY 1/125 def COLTS PHELANS 6/124
An incredibly efficient bowling performance has helped Laanecoorie Dunolly’s incredible winning run continue, taking a nine-wicket victory over Colts Phelans.
Colts won the toss and elected to bat, looking to take advantage of what has been a good batting pitch at True Blue Floors Oval this season.
But Colts didn’t take too long to strike trouble, with Sam Bartlett taking the first wicket of the day. He was able to get Rhys Wagstaff to play a shot straight to Sergio Rosier.
Joe Lovel soon got in on the act, and was quick to put Colts into some serious trouble.
First, he got the wicket of Harrison Kurzke for three as he edged a ball to Luke Smith behind the stumps, and then similarly got the wicket of the in-form Dave Robinson for one.
Sebastian Borg moved to four for this game, and between he and Luke Tatchell, looked to get Colts back on track.
Tatchell, in particular, came in having made 58 in his last start, and was carrying on the good form by playing some good shots.
In comparison, Borg was not quite able to get away as Laane turned up the wick, saving as many runs as possible.
The duo, however, got the score up to 66 before Tatchell was the next to fall, bowled by Matt Smith for 32.
Borg would be the next wicket, run out in a terrific piece of fielding by Steven Dellavedova for 17.
Dayne Baker looked to get some quick runs, and was able to deliver 15 before Laane’s South African duo combined for his wicket, with Sergio Rosier luring Baker into an edge straight to Luke.
Riley Govan and Johno Melton fought hard to ensure Colts would bat out the innings, with Govan finishing unbeaten on 16 and Melton finishing unbeaten on 11, as Colts made 6/124 off their 40 overs.
Lovel bowled exceptionally well to keep the run-rate down off his eight overs, finishing with 2/16, and it was a constant theme throughout the Laane bowling lineup.
As has regularly been the case this season, Laane batted with controlled aggression, with Tom Hannett and Luke coming out and constantly playing the right shots.
Hannett put together 24 before he fell, bowled by Robinson.
Lovel came out at three to back up his stellar bowling stint with the bat, and together with Luke, was able to guide Laane home.
Luke made hay for his fourth half-century of the season, finishing unbeaten on 68, while Lovel put together a solid innings, finishing unbeaten on 28.
Robinson was the only bowler to strike for Colts, finishing with figures of 1/22 off four overs.
