Laane victorious as Clunes are forced to forfeit
Clunes have been forced to forfeit their final game of the season due to player unavail-ability, with Laanecoorie Dunolly claiming their ninth victory of the season.
Laane managed to bowl the Magpies out for 106 courtesy of a four wicket performance from Daniel Romeo after some spirited performances from Brendan Ingram and Brenton Jones with the bat.
After some aggressive batting from the hosts top order to end day one, Laane still needed 27 runs to claim first innings points with Tom Hannett and Kamaljot Romana not out on 32 and 25 respectively.
With Clunes unfortunately unable to field a side on Saturday, Laane now set their sights on the finals where they will look to claim their sixth consecutive premiership.
They will start their finals campaign against Carisbrook in the semi-final, who provided Laane with quite a scare when the two teams last met in round 11.
After being bowled out for 181, thanks to three wickets from Zach Graham and Romana, Carisbrook seemed a strong chance to end Laane’s unprecedented unbeaten streak when the premiers were at 6/100.
Graham and Matt Smith’s 68-run partnership allowed Laane to get over the line in that encounter, surpassing Carisbrook’s total with two wickets in hand.
Both semi-finals between Carisbrook and Laane, and Colts Phelans and Beaufort will be played across two days on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.
