A youthful Maryborough lineup gave it their best shot, but were ultimately outclassed by Laanecoorie Dunolly by 153 runs as the second day of their match played out.

Despite the gulf in class, the Owls did well to bat 61 of the 78 allocated overs on the day, while a lot of younger players were given the chance to show their wares at the top of the order.

Ben Hoban and Lachlan Bursill opened for Maryborough, while Zach Graham and Sergio Rosier opened the bowling for Laane as they looked for quick wickets.

Graham was successful in his early endeavours as he collected the wicket of Bursill, who swung at a ball which was clipped straight to Tom Hannett, who took up the role behind the stumps.

That brought Sam Thomson in, and despite his young age, settled in quite well, working together with Hoban and playing the right shots.

However, Thomson was undone on 10 when attempting a second run, with Joe Lovel and Rosier combining to run him out.

Captain Mitch McClure was next in, and played aggressively, hitting three fours in what was a quickfire 17.

He too departed, however, with Graham collecting his second wicket after Rosier stayed in the game in the field, catching him out at mid-off.

Jasper Trickey and Hoban saw out the early overs to go in at lunch 3/46.

On resumption, it was Sam Bartlett who did the damage, collecting three quick wickets, bowling Trickey and James Scott, before soon getting the wicket of Lachie Condie after he hit a shot straight to Graham.

Maryborough would soon have their best passage of the day. With Troy Bursill joining Hoban, who was playing an incredibly disciplined innings, the duo provided plenty of experience in the middle and they were able to deliver a 77-run partnership.

Troy was doing the bulk of the hitting, scoring three fours and a six as he brought up a well-deserved 50, but it was Lovel who eventually got his wicket, with Steven Dellavedova taking a catch.

That allowed Laane to clean up the tail fairly quickly, with Lovel claiming a second wicket soon after by bowling Jason Hunt, while Thang Nguyen got the wicket of Troy Hubble.

The match ended when Matt Smith ran out Mick Malik for four, with Hoban remaining unbeaten after carrying his bat through the innings, staying unbeaten on 38 in a disciplined defensive display of keeping hold of his wicket.

Laane continue to build excellently for another premiership tilt and they got the job done quite comfortably in the end.

It would have pleased captain Smith to get more players crucial batting time on the first day of the game, while also getting success out of Hannett, making his move to wicketkeeper and more bowling into the likes of Nguyen.

Graham did well in the early stages to claim 2/42 off 13 overs, but it was Bartlett and Lovel who wore them down after lunch, with Bartlett finishing with 3/22 off 12 overs, while Lovel had another disciplined display with the ball, claiming 2/17 off 11 overs.
