Activities for prospectors young and old, new and seasoned will be on offer at this year’s Laanecoorie Gold Bash.

Now in its 13th year, the Gold Bash has grown into one of Australia’s premier gold prospecting events.

This year’s program will run from Friday, October 10 until Sunday, October 12, and will feature prospecting events attracting visitors from across the country.

This year’s program features:

  • Stalls for the gold enthusiasts from leading industry suppliers.

  • Token Hunt competitions with great prizes up for grabs, kids only and adult events.

  • Guest speakers sharing their knowledge of the goldfields history, modern prospecting techniques and the rich heritage of the region.

  • Live music and entertainment.

  • Family friendly activities.

  • Market stalls.

This year’s guest speaker will be Andrew Bales from Channel 7’s Weekend Prospector, to share expertise and stories from his diggings.

Fundraising on the Saturday will have an auction with Brent Shannon from Aussie Gold Hunters as auctioneer.

Event coordinator Mandy Downing said last year’s event was a great success.

“Last year we had around 600 people register for the event. We had people coming from Queensland and New South Wales,” she said.

“We added a market day on the Saturday, and it was a huge success, so we will do it again this year.

“Whether you’re an experienced prospector or just looking for something fun to do with the family, the Gold Bash is the perfect place to learn, have fun and maybe even strike it lucky.”

Proceeds from this year’s Gold Bash will go towards the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and to support head and neck cancer through maroon and white ribbons.

“It started out as a group of prospecting friends gathering at the caravan park and raising money for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Each year, the gathering grew in size,” Ms Downing said.

“But a couple of years after the event started, our organiser and caravan park owner was diagnosed with cancer, so we now support the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.”

The Laanecoorie 2025 Gold Bash committee have thanked the volunteers, sponsors, stall holders, members, lecturers and the prospecting community for putting effort into last year’s event, which drew in prospectors from around Australia.
