A lot of balls were coming off the middle of Tom Hannett’s bat on Saturday, as he made his second century of the season.

Play resumed at Hedges Oval with the Colts looking to defend their first innings total of 181 while the two Tom’s, Hannett and Hart, opened the run chase for the visitors.

The openers got Laane off to a strong start, particularly Hart who produced some wonderful shots to contribute 31 to the 40-run opening partnership.

The Colts were desperate to find a breakthrough before Laane started to run away with the contest, and Max Jackson delivered, catching Hart off his own bowling.

Kamaljot Romana joined Hannett at the crease to prevent the Colts from wrestling away Laane’s momentum, with the pair providing further stability to the innings.

The duo reached the halfway mark of the run chase before Charlie Scorer grabbed the second wicket for the Colts after Kamaljot Romana was caught by Nick Henderson for 24.

With the score at 2/91, the Colts needed to break up the new partnership of Hannett and the next man in Alex Cook quickly to try and cause a collapse of the middle order.

Hannett and Cook ensured the Colts were not afforded that opportunity, continuing to chip away at the total with a 65-run partnership.

With Laane 26 runs away from claiming first innings points at 2/156, Henderson brought about a breakthrough for the Colts, knocking down the castle of Cook after he made 26.

However, the damage to the Colts’ chances had already been done as Sam Bartlett joined Hannett to seal first innings points for Laane with seven wickets in hand.

After they officially passed the target, Laane continued their innings to give Hannett the opportunity for his second century of the season.

He did just that shortly thereafter, complementing his 138 not out against Beaufort in round nine with an unbeaten 101 while Bartlett finished on 12 not out.

Henderson (1/29 off 10 overs), Jackson (1/33 off nine overs) and Scorer (1/53 off 13 overs) worked hard with the ball for the Colts, each collecting a wicket.

After securing the minor premiership, Laane can add an exclamation point to their 50th anniversary celebrations when they take on Clunes in their final regular season contest.

Despite the loss, the Colts will finish in second and play a home final regardless of their result against Beaufort in round 13, potentially a preview of their semi-final matchup.
