Laane looks to increase streak to 58
Laanecoorie Dunolly will need to chase down Carisbrook’s total of 181 to increase their mammoth unbeaten streak to 58 games.
Laane bowling throughout Carisbrook’s batting innings prevented the visitors from making a larger total.
Their constant pressure never allowed Carisbrook to get in the groove of finding boundaries or rotating the strike.
A total of 16 maidens were bowled throughout the innings, while all six bowlers for Laane allowed on average less than three runs an over.
While under a considerable amount of duress, it should be commended that many of Carisbrook’s batters didn’t succumb to the temptations of risky singles or big shots more often.
William Coutts, Martin Mark and Cooper Mark took their time to build their innings and ensure they didn’t throw their wicket away.
It was also impressive to see Ritik Yadav and Cole Harris bring the attack to Laane, allowing Carisbrook to reach a target larger than the total they defended against Beaufort last round.
To say Laane have the firepower to reach the total of 181 would be an understatement, as they average just under 300 runs in the four times they have batted first this season.
Heading into round 11, Laane possessed three of the top four run-getters in the league in Tom Hannett (first with 390 runs), Alex Cook (third with 345 runs) and Kamaljot Romama (fourth with 324 runs).
The trio have also accumulated three of the four highest scores in a single innings with Tom Hannett 138 not out in his last knock against Beaufort the highest in the competition.
That doesn’t even include players like Matt Smith and Zach Graham who were both in the top 10 for runs scored last season.
That is not to discredit the Carisbrook bowling attack who played a massive role in their win over Beaufort last round.
They will look to replicate that performance by grabbing wickets quickly and often.
Yadav is a huge addition to their squad in the middle of the season which is sure to boost their wicket-taking abilities.
He finished in the top 15 in wickets taken last season while only playing four matches all season, on average conceding just under 19 runs per wicket.
Leading wicket-taker for Carisbrook last season with 17 Dean Nalder will look to cause some damage to the Laane lineup while Harris, Atticus Cullinan and Liam Hurse are also threats to the host’s plans, with each taking five wickets or more this season.
