Laane look to get going against Brook
There’s plenty of fascination over how Laanecoorie Dunolly will look on Saturday as they make their season debut against Carisbrook.
With Luke Smith, Sergio Rosier and Ben Gunn significant outs from last season’s premiership winning team, and Zach Graham also out this weekend, the batting order for Laane looks set to be somewhat different.
However, what Laane certainly doesn’t lack is batting depth.
They will still have Tom Hannett providing stability at the top of the order, and he will likely have the reliable Sam Bartlett alongside him opening.
Joe Lovel will continue to be trusted at first drop, while one can also expect new recruits Alex Cook and Tom Hart to play their part in the batting order as well.
Of course, Laane also have captain Matt Smith to call upon, who has been ultra consistent when he has been at the crease.
Despite missing some big names, it will still be a big challenge for Carisbrook this weekend, especially after coming off a round one loss.
The Brookers certainly had their moments last week where they were up and about both with the bat and the ball.
In the early part of the innings, Atticus Cullinan provided some terrific bowling, securing the wickets of Rhys Egan and Ben Evans, before claiming a further wicket with Harrison Kurzke his third victim, eventually finishing with 3/49.
However, Carisbrook weren’t quite able to restrict Colts enough, conceding 219 runs from 40 overs.
With the bat, Carisbrook recovered from a slow start, losing two wickets for 10 runs, with Dean Nalder and William Coutts putting together a good third-wicket partnership of 45 runs.
Nalder, for his part, was superb. After coming in very early, he carried his bat for the remainder of Carisbrook’s innings, and scored an unbeaten 63 to take an early lead in the runscoring charts.
Carisbrook will have a big challenge looking to make more runs against the Laane attack, who will no doubt have big contributions from the likes of Bartlett and Lovel, while Cook will also come into the attack to provide some off-spin bowling.
