The Laanecoorie Gold Bash’s 10th anniversary was more than a golden opportunity for prospecting enthusiasts, successfully raising over $41,000 for charity.

Held over October 7 to 9 last year, the Laanecoorie Gold Bash celebrated its 10th anniversary with prospecting lectures, gold fields tours, demonstrations, auctions and stalls.

The event also doubles as a fundraiser for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, in honour of one the event’s founders, Jim Stewart, who passed away from cancer in 2013.

The event set a goal of $26,000 for 2022, but was able to almost double that, handing a cheque for $41,593.52 to the foundation.

Event coordinator Di Hodgson said the total came close to being their best year yet.

“The Gold Bash was the second most successful year it has had in relation to donated funds,” she said.

“It felt amazing almost doubling the target as being post-COVID, businesses that donate goods to us were just getting back on track and we were not sure how it would all pan out.

“A majority of the funds was raised via the auction, games and raffles.

“Peter Mac Cancer research does some incredible, invaluable work to saving human lives.”
