LAANECOORIE DUNOLLY 2/74 def COLTS PHELANS 7/69

Laanecoorie Dunolly’s bowling attack was at its economical best on Saturday as they dispatched Colts Phelans by eight wickets with 42 balls to spare.

For a second week in succession, Laane won the toss and elected to bowl, and backed their bowling attack in to restrict Colts’ batting lineup.

Colts, however, had different ideas, and were able to put on 16 for the first wicket, before Rhys Wagstaff was lured into a shot by Zach Graham, and edged one through to James Shorney behind the stumps.

Graham’s impact left Colts reeling. He soon had a second wicket, taking Dave Robinson’s wicket for one in similar style to Wagstaff’s, and was able to combine with Daniel Romeo for Colts’ third wicket, running out Luke Tatchell for a duck.

Dayne Baker looked to make some quick runs with Colts reeling, but it was not to be, with new recruit Sergio Rosier soon making an impact, clean bowling Baker for eight, and combining with fellow new recruit Luke Smith to remove Bayden Macintyre for a duck.

Sebastian Borg was able to make some runs, but was removed by Daniel Romeo for 11.

Harrison Kurzke (eight) and Johno Melton (12) were able to make some late runs to bring the score up to 69 off their 20 overs.

In response, it was all Laane as they didn’t offer too many chances to Colts during their batting innings.

Tom Hannett and Smith put on 30 for the first wicket while also being able to push the pace, however, it was broken up by Nick Henderson, who was able to lure Hannett into playing a shot to Rhys Wagstaff for 11.

That brought Rosier to the crease, and Laane’s new top order batters immediately went to work to show that they’ll be difficult to remove, with Smith scoring 34 and Rosier adding 19.

Smith’s innings ended with just two runs required, trapped LBW by Riley Govan.

Graham then came out and hit a six with his only ball faced to end the game, and left Laane continuing on their winning streak ahead of their double header with Maryborough next week.

Colts will now look to bounce back against Beaufort.
