Maryborough have now lost eight games in succession, with Kyneton proving too strong, taking a 29-goal victory.

Pre-game there was a change to the Magpies’ midcourt, with Emily Swan taking Tori Chandler’s position in centre, while the rest of the team remained unchanged.

Kyneton got off to the stronger start, with goal attack Michelle Fletcher dominating by scoring 13 goals in the early stages to help the Tigers to 15 goals, helping them establish a nine-goal break at the end of the first term. Keely Hare scored two goals for Maryborough, while Abbey Nalder added four.

Kyneton continued to make all the running in the second quarter, scoring 16 goals to nine to extend their lead to 16 goals at the main break. Maryborough made the most of their opportunities, converting from 12 shots inside their goal circle, with Hare scoring on five occasions, and Nalder four.

Maryborough coach Jordan MacIlwain made changes at half time, moving Hare and Nalder around, while Alex Williams made way for Ella Patten.

The changes weren’t enough to eat into the margin, with Kyneton enjoying their best offensive quarter of the day, scoring 17 goals, while holding the Magpies to seven of their own. Patten added four goals, while Hare added three.

Central to Kyneton’s dominance was their ability to prevent Maryborough from breaching their front third, and although the Magpies had 22 goals to their name, it had come from just 34 shots. The Tigers, meantime, enjoyed 64 shots in the same time frame.

The Magpies had a better run in the last quarter, and enjoyed their best passage of the day. They were able to score eight goals, while restricting Kyneton to 11. Nalder added five goals to take her tally to 17 for the day, while Hare scored three more to end her day with 13 goals.

Elsewhere, Maryborough’s B grade team were unable to score their first win of the year, losing by 29 goals, while Maryborough’s B reserve team went down by 14 goals.

The 17 and under team took an important victory ahead of a crucial matchup with Golden Square, scoring 74 goals to win by 58. The victory keeps the Magpies in the top five by three games, while they remain half a game behind Square in the race for the double chance ahead of a crucial fortnight which sees them pitted against the third-placed Bulldogs and second-placed Sandhurst.
