For the fourth year in a row, the Maryborough and District Triathlon Club’s Kidz Triathlon attracted strong participation from the local area to take on the Jack Pascoe Reserve, and with a strong crowd of supporters, these budding triathletes enjoyed their first (or in some cases, fourth) taste of the sport of triathlon.

Participants and families travelled from as far afield as Buninyong, Cardigan, Clunes, Bealiba, Dunolly, Natte Yallock, and Avoca for the event, and with many parents supporting their sons and daughters the event had an exceptional family feel.

There were smiles all round as the young triathletes crossed the finish line and received their finishing medallion.

Triathletes were well supervised in the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre 25 m indoor pool, with Triathlon Victoria providing the sanctioning and triathlete packs.

Club secretary Jenny Barras was thrilled at the conclusion of the event.

“It was great to see so many returning and new faces at the Kidz Triathlon, and to see the huge smiles on their faces at the end of the event is fantastic,” she said.

“A big thank you to all the volunteers who assisted with set-up, marshalling, and pack-up on the day as well, we could not run a successful event like this without that support, it is greatly appreciated.”

The Maryborough and District Triathlon Club will continue to plan the Kidz Triathlon event on an annual basis to provide an opportunity for novice triathletes to experience the sport of triathlon and promote physical activity through swimming, riding, and running.

The club’s next event will be held on Sunday, April 2 from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre and will involve a traditional triathlon with a short course option for new and developing triathletes.
