Maryborough Theatre Company are inviting residents to an in-person information night tomorrow for their upcoming junior production.

Children and their parents are encouraged to learn more, including how to get involved, at Maryborough’s Mill House on Wednesday starting 5.15 pm.

The production, Disney’s Dare to Dream Jr, will see local kids from

7 to 15 years old play an eager group of trainees on their first day at a fictional Walt Disney Imagineering Studio.

Together they discover their dreams, and perform Disney songs both new and old, as they learn anything is possible.

The production’s director Hannah Matters, who previously directed The Spongebob Musical, said they were excited to see the show’s preparations get underway.

“We just thought it was a really good fit for our little Maryborough community,” she said.

The show’s themes of finding a dream, too, she said were particularly relevant for local youth.

“I know myself growing up ... you’re stuck trying to figure out where you are and where you’re meant to be in society,” she said.

“You go into a theatre show and you find your place, find your people, and find if that’s something you’d be interested in pursuing.”

The information night lays out the foundation of what the show is, the theatre company’s expectations surrounding time commitment and maintaining an inclusive environment, as well as room to ask and answer questions.

“It won’t be the most fun sort of night ... but the fun will come in our first rehearsal,” she said.

In Ms Matters experience the enjoyment carries through to the last show when mixed emotions set in.

“I find you really do find your family in the shows that you do because you’re spending so much time with them,” she said.

“So you become close, you build these friendships, you put all this effort in and you go on stage and perform and then you get really sad that it’s over.”

Local children interested in performing, or finding their own chosen family, are encouraged to attend the information session or find out more information on Maryborough Theatre Company’s Facebook page.
