Local product Jed Adcock will be moving back into Victoria after moving to North Melbourne to become an assistant coach.

Adcock moves from the Brisbane Lions, where he previously played from 2004-2015 in a stint which yielded 206 games and two seasons as captain after getting drafted from the North Ballarat Rebels in 2003 via Maryborough, while going on to add seven more games with the Western Bulldogs in 2016, as well as capturing the VFL premiership that same year.

Upon retiring, Adcock returned to Brisbane to become an assistant coach, minding the forward line for six years, including developing the likes of exciting talents such as fellow Maryborough product Kai Lohmann, before switching to become defensive coach in 2023, which yielded a grand final appearance on Saturday, losing by just four points to Collingwood.

Speaking on lions.com.au, Brisbane Lions General Manager of Football, Danny Daly, praised Adcock for the work to bring the Lions back up the AFL ladder.

“Jed has given a fantastic contribution to the Brisbane Lions as a player, captain, and assistant coach for the best part of two decades, so we thank him and his family sincerely,” he said.

“There’s no doubt that since joining the Lions coaching staff that Jed has helped play a key role in the club’s resurgence which last weekend saw us play off in a grand final.

“We wish Jed all the best with the next chapter of his coaching career and his life.”

Adcock joins as part of a coaching restructure at the Kangaroos, who finished in 17th in 2023, under the helm of four-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson, while Werribee VFL coach Michael Barlow and former Richmond assistant coach Xavier Clarke have also made the move to the Kangaroos in recent weeks.
