It’s a cause of celebration for former Maryborough local Jake Stringer, with the Essendon X factor bringing up his 200th AFL game in the Bombers' clash with Richmond under the MCG lights tomorrow night.

Stringer’s milestone game is a doubly special occasion, with Essendon playing in the annual Dreamtime at the G clash against Richmond, and with the Bombers in second place on the AFL ladder, will be determined to maintain their charge into a finals contender this season.

It also comes in the midst of contract negotiations between Stringer and the club, with the Herald Sun reporting on Wednesday that Stringer is looking to close on a two-year deal to remain with the Bombers.

While Stringer had sought a three-year deal, it is reported that he is content with a two-year deal to ensure that he can continue to perform well for the Bombers.

Stringer has provided a good role for the Bombers across the forward line, with stints in midfield, in 2024, and is averaging 1.9 goals per game across his 10 games so far, as well as 2.2 tackles, 2.1 clearances and 3.1 inside 50s per game as part of his 12.3 disposals.

That’s seen him good enough to rank 15th in the Coleman Medal race, while he is also in the top 15 in the competition for marks inside 50 and 19th in tackles inside 50.

Stringer has had his moments throughout his career, which has seen him play 89 games with the Western Bulldogs before his move to Essendon in 2018, which has seen him add 110 games since.

A 2016 premiership player with the Bulldogs, Stringer is currently tracking for his best season in front of goal since 2015, when he kicked 56 goals for the season.
