Two dedicated local nurses have received a generous endowment — enabling them to upskill and further support the community.
Jodie Dernehl, an enrolled nurse (EN) and Cassie Owen, a trainee nurse and instrument technician, have been awarded the Dunolly Nursing Home Auxiliary’s annual education scholarship.
While there’s normally only one recipient, this year the auxiliary decided to increase the total amount from $1000 to $1500 — with the scholarship shared equally between both applicants.
Ms Dernehl is working at Dunolly as an EN and plans to use the scholarship to undertake the Wound Management Resource Program to enhance her skills.
And Ms Owen, from the Central Sterile Services Department, is currently undertaking the Diploma of Nursing through Bendigo TAFE and Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS).
She also recently completed one of her clinical placements at Dunolly.
According to MDHS-Dunolly Campus director of nursing Donna Bell, the scholarship — presented to staff members studying nursing or undertaking further specialist education — represents a significant investment in the development of employees, as well as, the experience of residents at Dunolly Residential Community.
“We appreciate the generous support provided by the Nursing Home Auxiliary who raise valuable funds to support our team and brighten the lives of the residents,” she said.
“The scholarship is just one example of the invaluable and thoughtful contribution they make.
“Recipients are able to develop and grow their skills and this improves and enriches the experience of the team as a whole and the residents.”
Dunolly Residential Care Community is one of three residential communities managed by MDHS.
The small community has 19 rooms dedicated to aged care, surrounded by bushlands and gardens.
