Indian food is on the menu
It all came down to a promise. Royal Indian Food Express’ owner gave his word to the Maryborough community — he was going to bring Indian food back to town.
It’s been a month since Peter Gaur, owner of Royal Indian Food Express, put Indian food back on the menu.
“I committed I’d be there and I came. Hook or crook, doesn’t matter,” he said.
For almost a year, Mr Gaur has been active on local Facebook pages updating the community on his progress bringing Royal Indian, which has restaurants elsewhere in the state, to the Maryborough community.
Originally it was going to be a physical location. Mr Gaur said he had one organised, inspections done, but it fell through at the last minute — however, he wasn’t going to give up.
“I don’t have any options so I thought maybe I could open my food van,” he said.
Fulfilling his promise, Mr Gaur said he’s proud to serve the local community, thanking them for their support.
“There are very lovely people in Maryborough, very supportive people,” he said.
“I want the community to ... give their honest opinion without hesitation.”
Mr Gaur recalls the half kilometre line when he opened his restaurant in Bacchus Marsh, a community which didn’t have an Indian option at the time.
While Maryborough has kept him busy, it hasn’t been that kind of busy, although local support has still made him consider a permanent location.
“If everything is going smoothly and nicely in Maryborough ... within a year maybe I can open a small fine dining restaurant,” he said.
“It all depends on community support and if they like my food.”
Mr Gaur’s food truck can be found in the Maryborough IGA car park from Thursday to Saturday between 4.30 to 8 pm.
