While the State Government has confirmed the 2024/25 budget will not impact the Maryborough Hospital’s opening, Federal Member for Mallee Anne Webster remains doubtful.
Under the budget, released last week, the estimated completion date for the $115 million hospital redevelopment project has been revised to quarter four 2025-26 — with the initial timeline indicating works would be progressively completed from late 2024.
This updated schedule, the government told the The Advertiser, will not impact the opening of the facility.
The amended dates in the budget, according to the government, cover works to be undertaken in the second stage of the project including landscaping and required demolitions.
However, expressing her disappointment in a statement, Dr Webster said the delay was “unforgiveable”.
“The people of Maryborough will suffer as a result of the Allan Labor Government’s abysmal economic management and Melbourne-centric mentality,” she said.
“As I travel across the nation as Shadow Assistant Minister for Regional Health, I hear from frazzled frontline health professionals and patients facing increasing and costly trips to the capital city for diagnosis and treatment.”
