Hopes to restart Apex club
Expressions of interest are open to locals interested in the revival of an Apex club in the Central Goldfields.
Titled “Apex Central Goldfields”, Apex members would be invited to volunteer their time and skills for local projects or assist with local fundraising events.
Apex Central Goldfields convener Noelle Mason is adamant the organisation can resurface locally due to its younger member-ship appeal.
“It’s for both men and women between the ages of 18 to 50 years,” she said.
Established in Geelong in 1931, Apex was designed to offer a range of localised community service, particularly for younger Austra-lians.
Maryborough’s own Apex group was formed in 1940 and operated until it’s closure in 2017, due to a decline in membership.
Despite not existing in Maryborough for eight years, Ms Mason insists now is the perfect time to bring it back.
“It’s strictly localised when they do good deeds. It’s not expensive, because you can chose when you are free,” she said.
“Maryborough is primed for it. It’s about teaching, and advocacy and physically being involved.”
Ms Mason said experiences as an Apex volunteer are designed to be unique and individualised.
“It’s about physically doing stuff, not just talking about it. The money raised and the projects completed stay within the community,” she said.
Apex member with western Victoria Tim Glenton said joining Apex can be a sociable and enjoyable experience.
“Apex attracts members from all walks of life. It's amazing seeing the many different friendships that are made. The contacts made in Apex can be just as valuable profes-sionally as personally,” he said.
“Members choose how much time they want to spend helping their local community. If the member is very passionate about a project or an initiative, more time would be dedicated to this activity by the person involved. You only get out of it what you put in.”
Ms Mason said both new and past members are welcome to join Apex Central Goldfields.
“It’s a chance to open the door, and ask ‘what’s possible?’ and ‘what might this lead to?’,” she said.
For locals who are interested, Ms Mason will be hosting an information session on Wednesday May 7 in the Terrace room at the Maryborough Golf Club, starting at 5.30 pm.
