Historic rally returns
The Central Goldfields Historical Machinery Society is inviting residents to dust off their vintage vehicles and start their engines for the Goldfields Rally.
The annual event promises to be action-packed with tractor pull events, live music, buy, sell and swap stalls, food wagons and a collection of classic cars, tractors and engines.
A new addition to this year’s entertainment is the dog jump competition split into small, medium and large dog categories.
Club president John Hanley said he is excited for enthusiasts to enjoy this weekend’s festivities at the Old Dunolly Racecourse.
“It’s an opportunity for people who have older engines and tractors to come out and show them off to other people,” he said.
“One of the highlights this year is the tractor pull at night time by bulldog tractors — it will be quite a spectacle seeing what’s coming out the top of the exhaust.
“We have people from all over Victoria who bring their tractors here for the tractor pull and it’s good to see them come back.”
Formed in 1992, the historical machinery society aims to preserve the Central Goldfields mechanical history by repairing and restoring vintage vehicles.
Mr Hanley said the event helps continue an appreciation for local machinery history for future generations.
“It’s a weekend out for like-minded people and promotes a community interest,” he said.
“There are a lot of older farmers around who drove these tractors or their father owned these types of tractors.
“Kids come along and they see these tractors which can make a fair bit of noise and it really gets their attention.”
The Goldfields Rally runs this Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 from the Old Dunolly Racecourse. Entry is $5.
