The minor premiership has been won by Highland Tartan after an entertaining battle with Dunolly Blue, while the finals spots could be sorted in round 17.
Tartan may have taken the sweep, but it was anything but comfortable as Dunolly Blue fought hard the whole way in a 70-61 result.
Greg Shay had a terrific, high-scoring battle with Tony Galofaro which resulted in a 28-26 win, while Andrew Brumby defeated Barry Mortlock 23-19. Michael Fryar finished off the job with a 19-16 win over Alan Weir.
Dunolly Blue could yet face a battle to keep their spot in the top two, with Talbot closing the gap to 23 points courtesy of a 79-51 win over Maryborough Golf, which hurts their chances of playing in the finals.
Barb Crossley defeated Liz Bucknall 29-16, while Matt Vernon defeated Harold Patullo 32-11. Golf were able to claim two points back with Kort Gay’s 24-18 win over Ray Prentice, but it wasn’t enough as they now sit 25 points behind Avoca with two rounds to play.
For their part, Avoca boosted their cause to play finals courtesy of a 78-40 sweep over Carisbrook.
Rebecca Zeuschner took a 30-6 win over Leonie Briggs, while Daniel Giddings took a 28-17 win over Patricia Stancombe. Loralee Field finished off the job with a 20-17 win over Ross Gregory.
Newstead took a 70-49 win over Dunolly Gold as they ensured their first season in the midweek pennant would be a success with their fourth win.
While Fabio Delconte had a dominant outing for Dunolly Gold, taking a 26-9 win over Rod Hamilton, it was all Newstead on the other two rinks, with David Cobden taking a 25-12 win over Frank Mifsud and Brian Daly recording a 36-11 win over Wayne Stephens.
The final four order can be decided after round 17’s play.
Talbot will have an important game against Highland Tartan, both in looking to inflict Tartan’s first loss of the season, and also keeping alive their double chance hopes.
A win for Talbot will lead into a last-round blockbuster for the double chance as they play Dunolly Blue, who have the bye this week.
Avoca can lock in a spot in the finals if they are successful against Newstead, but on the flipside, Maryborough Golf will be hoping for a Newstead win, as well as a win over Dunolly Gold, which would auger in to a last weekend showdown for the final spot in the top four when the two teams are due to meet.
Carisbrook will finish off their season hoping to avoid the wooden spoon when they travel to the Highland Society to play Highland Gold.
