With just six rounds to go, it appears that Highland Tartan and Dunolly Blue have shored up finals places with big wins which sees them well clear in the top two.

Highland Tartan took a dominant 96-28 victory over Maryborough Golf to maintain a 14-point lead over Dunolly Blue.

A 23-14 victory on rink one proved to be the closest of the morning, but 43-6 and 30-8 wins on rinks two and three helped provide a percentage boost for Highland Tartan.

Dunolly Blue continues to go blow-for-blow with the ladder-leaders, putting in an equally impressive 70-45 victory over Avoca which also saw them earn 16 premiership points.

All three rinks were consistent, with Dunolly Blue taking a 24-13 win on rink one, before 23-16 victories on rinks two and three allowed them to keep pace with Highland Tartan.

Their cause was helped by Talbot’s dramatic draw with Carisbrook, a result which saw Carisbrook close to within eight points of Avoca in the top four.

The match was tight throughout. A 17-15 win to Talbot gave them ascendancy, but Carisbrook hit back with an 18-16 victory. With the game on the line, rink three could not be split, and a 21-21 draw saw the points shared.

Dunolly Gold kept their finals chances alive thanks to a 61-46 victory over Highland Gold.

A 26-7 win on rink one gave Dunolly Gold a big lead, which was only extended thanks to a 23-11 win on rink two. But a 28-12 victory at least gave Highland Gold two premiership points.

Round nine will pit the two runaway leaders against one another, with Dunolly Blue hosting Highland Tartan at Dunolly.

Talbot can close the gap to the top two if they can take care of Highland Gold at Talbot Bowls Club, while it’s an important match for Dunolly Gold and Avoca when they meet at Dunolly, with the winner potentially having an opportunity to move up the ladder.

Finally, Carisbrook will be looking for an opportunity to either close or break into the top four when they travel to Maryborough Golf.
