Maryborough Highland Society staff were thrilled with this week’s news that they were finalists for three Community Clubs Victoria awards.

This year’s nominations include Regional Club of the Year, Community Collaboration of the Year and Young Emerging Leader of the Year.

Maryborough Highland Society general manager Malcolm Blandthorn said he is grateful for the recognition.

“Community Clubs Victoria is our governing body, so it’s a very big banner of clubs. We went in with four different awards with them and we have been named in finalists for three,” he said.

The Highland Society was selected as Community Collaboration finalists for hosting the Australian Pipe Band Championships, and the Young Emerging Leader of the Year award presented to team member Olivia Lanfranchi.

“We have always considered ourselves part of the community. Being a not-for-profit club, a lot of our focus is on what we can do to give back to the community,” Mr Blandthorn said.

“This type of recognition is wonderful through the work the board does, the management, staff, members, volunteers or events. Without them, we wouldn’t be looking at even applying for these awards let alone named as finalists.”

Winners will be announced at a Gala dinner in Melbourne on Saturday, July 5.
