The battle between the top six teams continues to heat up, with plenty of high scoring in round 10.

Highland Tartan continue to set the pace, but had to do a bit of work to defeat Avoca.

Much of their difference came about thanks to Andrew Brumby’s 33-9 win over Ann Loosmore, but the other two rinks were a battle, with Loralee Field giving Avoca two points thanks to a 23-17 win over Leanne Wallis, while Greg Shay gave Highland Tartan two more points with a 21-16 win over Rebecca Zeuschner.

Dunolly Blue made a little bit of ground with the highest score of the season so far, scoring a 110-36 win over stablemates Dunolly Gold.

Keith Elliott’s 41-11 win over Jim Haigh helped set Dunolly Blue on the way, and they continued to make ground with Tony Galofaro’s 30-12 win over Fabio Delconte and Alan Weir’s 39-13 win over Wayne Stephens.

An important battle between Highland Gold and Maryborough Golf was resolved in favour of the latter by the barest of margins.

Highland Gold did take two of the rinks for four competition points, with Michael Fryar defeating Marian Webb 24-15 and Corry Moss defeating Liz Bucknall 22-20, but Kort Gay’s 26-14 win over Jason Arthur gave Golf the win, as well as a top four spot.

Newstead moved off the bottom of the ladder with their second win of the season against Carisbrook, but had to fight a lot more than their corresponding round one match, eventually prevailing 66-57.

Graeme Lipback’s 33-16 win over Judy Cassidy was the key difference-maker, with Carisbrook prevailing on the other two rinks, as Leonie Briggs defeated Rod Hamilton 19-18 and Denise Matic proved too good for Brian Daly, 22-15.

Talbot had the bye, maintaining third position.

Round 11 sees the top four hosting bottom five teams.

Ladder-leader Highland Tartan will host an inter-team battle with Highland Gold as they look to maintain their comfortable lead on top of the table, while Dunolly Blue will be hoping to keep in touch when they host Avoca.

Talbot will look to return off the bye with a clash against bottom team Dunolly Gold, while Maryborough Golf host Carisbrook. With both third-placed Talbot and fourth-placed Golf equal on points, every point will count as they look to remain in the race for a top two spot.
