High school begins for triplets at Highview

Three is the magic number at Highview College this year with triplets joining their newest cohort.

Triplets Liam, Grace and Oliver Holmes have begun their secondary school education at Maryborough’s Highview College — marking a new era for the Clunes trio. While thrice might be nice, all three siblings are enjoying their own classes and growing into their identities.

Oliver, Liam and Grace Holmes are the bright young trifecta from Clunes that have been enjoying their recent start to high school together.

While starting at their new school has been made easier alongside at least two familiar faces, the experience has still been much like their peers.

“Starting high school is nerve-racking, but we all still get to be our own people because we are in different classes,” Grace said.

In fact, the triad very rarely cross paths, with Liam and Oliver sharing just a maths class.

“It’s good to sometimes share a class with your sibling, but it’s nice to not be in every single class with them,” Oliver said.

While Liam and Oliver look similar enough to trick their teachers and friends, the trio haven’t taken an identical path in their education.

“I really enjoy english because of how fun it is, and PE, for the same reason, they’re interesting,” Liam said.

For Grace, it’s her love of science that shines through.

“I love English, I have always loved it, and science,” Grace said.

“I really like maths, because I’m good at it, it just flows through my mind. When I see numbers, I always think of what maths I can do with those numbers. I also really like drama because I love acting, and PE,” Oliver said.

While they are looking forward to going on school camps and forming their own friend groups, they said challenges can come with being triple trouble.

“We all have to share a birthday and when one of us does something, it relates to all of us,” Liam said.

But they agree having your siblings close by your side can be thrice as nice.

“The boys don’t steal my stuff or my clothes, we have a little sister that already does that,” Grace said.

“I also try to be very social, and talk a lot, but if I didn’t have any of my siblings, I would just be sitting there bored,” Grace said.

But while they said there are many benefits to being a triplet, such as being able to play video games together, they want people to know the three of a kind are still their own individuals.

“It’s not that bad when there’s two people who don’t share the exact same interests as you,” Grace said.

“People don’t refer to us as ‘the triplets’ but as our own people and it’s good.”
