Maryborough Martial Arts head instructors Brian and Heather Carr were able to succeed in ticking a major box in their Taekwondo journey.

Both Brian and Heather were able to complete their fifth Dan Black Belt prior to Christmas, following 18 months of training in Bundoora.

Brian and Heather had travelled to the town, located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, each week for 7 am training sessions, which was performed in addition to training sessions at the Maryborough Sports and Fitness Centre.

Both were graded on December 23 by Robert Schembri, who is eighth Dan, including a panel of high Dan Black Belt scrutineers.

Their grading for fifth Dan was composed of multiple self-defence components, technical Poomsae, sparring with attackers and board breaks.

Having now achieved their fifth Dan, Brian and Heather will continue on in ensuring their Taekwondo classes for seniors and juniors continue on at the Maryborough Sports and Fitness Centre throughout 2024, with all welcome to try the sport.
