TALBOT (57) def MALDON (44)
Here come the Hawks.
Talbot announced themselves as a genuine finals threat after an impressive performance in downing Maldon by 13 goals in a performance which saw them score 57 goals at Talbot Recreation Reserve.
It was one of the Hawks’ most impressive performances for a long time as they moved the ball with will, overwhelming the Dons with their quick movement across the court.
The first quarter was a very open affair, with plenty of scoring on offer. The Hawks found themselves in front thanks to 14 goals to 12, with Dom Roche scoring eight for the Hawks, and Eleisha Phelps adding six. For Maldon, Katelyn Cutlack scored 11 goals, with Katie Tong adding one.
Talbot started making their move in the second term, scoring 15 goals to 10 to increase their lead to seven goals at the main break, 29-22. Roche scored eight goals, while Phelps added seven for the Hawks, while for Maldon, Cutlack scored six goals and Tong four.
The scoring dried up to a degree in the third quarter as defence won the day, but the Hawks were still doing more than enough to increase their lead, scoring 11 goals to eight to lead 40-30 at the final change. Roche scored 10 goals, while Phelps scored one for the Hawks, and for Maldon, Tong scored six goals and Cutlack two.
The high-scoring ways returned in the last quarter, with Talbot scoring 17 goals and Maldon 14 as both teams looked to finish the game strongly. Roche added nine goals in the last to finish with 35 for the day, while Phelps scored eight to provide 22 goals for the day. Meantime, for Maldon, Tong scored eight goals to finish as equal-leading scorer alongside Cutlack with 19 goals, and Zoe Backway scored six.
The Hawks’ improved form will be put to the test next week when they travel to Avoca, while Maldon will be seeking to defeat Lexton at home.
