After trailing at half time by three points, Talbot managed to fight off a gallant Avoca to run out victors by 35 points at the final siren.

The Bulldogs were playing for pride after a massive loss in the opening round and they showed they were not going to be easybeats against the Hawks.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they couldn’t sustain the pressure for the required four quarters and Talbot won the second half of the game kicking nine goals to the Bulldogs’ two.

Avoca still have some key players absent from their line up, but there is no excuses according to their hierarchy, and they are very happy with their promising youngsters who they put a lot of faith in for the future.

Former Bulldogs junior, Riley Hamilton, has returned to his home club and showed promising signs on Saturday when he was named their best player, while new Gordon recruit, Clayton Winter played his first game on Saturday and showed he will be a great acquisition as well, and the experienced Sean Moyle showed what he can do with a strong pre-season under his belt.

But it was the Hawks who won the game and are undefeated, sitting in fourth position on the ladder after their strong second half.

Adam Scott was very difficult for the Bulldogs defenders to curtail and his five goal contribution played a big role in the victory.

Matt Ward, Matthew York, Brad Dunbar and Darcy Osborne were named in the Hawks better players as were the elusive Jayson Atkins, and the games leading goalkicker,Scott.

Talbot will now have to face up to Lexton in what will be one of the games of the round, while the Bulldogs are home to Newstead, who are coming off a 62 point defeat at the hands of Harcourt.
