It’s been 1870 days since Talbot’s A grade netball team enjoyed that winning feeling on their home court.
June 23, 2018, was their last victory at home, a nine-goal win against Campbells Creek.
But after their four-goal victory against Newstead on Saturday, the feel good vibes were back at the Hawks, and it’s a result which means they’ll most likely avoid the wooden spoon as a result.
The Hawks got off to a fast start on Saturday, scoring 15 goals to six to open the game and control the pace of play.
But Newstead started to make up a bit of ground in the second quarter, scoring 12 goals to nine to reduce the margin to six goals at the main break.
The Kangaroos continued to ask questions during the third quarter as they successfully narrowed the gap again, scoring eight goals to six to make it a four-goal game in the last, with everything to play for.
The Hawks held their nerve during the last quarter, however, evening up the contest and scoring 12 goals to hold out the Kangaroos in what was a famous victory for the club.
Dom Roche led the way with 28 goals, while Tia Skelton added 14. For Newstead, Verity Gartside scored 29 goals, while Cedella Marshall added nine.
