Easter is a time for sharing meals (and perhaps an Easter egg or three) but the Grampians Public Health Unit is urging everyone to stay COVID safe during the holiday period.

The public health unit has supported the Maryborough region during the pandemic and advised adults aged 65 and over remain at a high risk of severe illness from COVID-19, but declining immunity in the community places all age groups at risk of illness.

“The Easter weekend is a chance for many of us to spend time with friends and loved ones,” Grampians Public Health Unit Chief Strategy and Regions Officer Robert Grenfell said.

“Simple steps such as ensuring your vaccinations are up-to-date, performing a Rapid Antigen Test and wearing a mask can help to protect your loved ones from getting seriously ill during this time of increased social activity.

“All adults are eligible for a booster dose if it has been six months since your last dose or COVID infection.

“Check in with your family members and friends to see if they have received a booster dose. Doing so could save their life.”

In February, it was recommended that those 65 years and over receive a booster dose to help safeguard them against severe illness.

Vaccinations are free and bookings can be made online using the Department of Health Vaccine Clinic Finder at www.health.gov.au/resources/apps-and-tools/service-finder

As of the latest COVID-19 data released on March 30, there had been 19 new cases in the Central Goldfields Shire in the past seven days, with 19 active.
