COLTS PHELANS 7/218 def by MARYBOROUGH 2/263

Tom Hart’s first A grade century helped propel Mary-borough to a 45-run victory in a high-scoring affair against Colts Phelans.

The Owls won the toss and elected to bat.

Ben Hoban and Hart came in as the Owls’ odd couple looked to spend some good time on the pitch.

Hoban did his job of holding together an end, while Hart played at his aggressive best.

Maryborough were able to put on 96 for the first wicket, with Hart scoring the bulk of the runs, before Hoban was bowled by Bayden Macintyre.

However, that didn’t disturb Hart’s influence on the game, as he valuated his way to a well-deserved 100 just past the midway point.

A massive score was perhaps in the offering for Hart, but he soon departed, with Nick Henderson taking his wicket for a brilliant 115, with the score 2/179.

But captain Mitch McClure was able to continue on with the job from the foundations that were built, and together with Logan Kirkwood, the duo were able to put on 84 for the third wicket until the end of their 40 overs, with McClure finishing with a superb 88, while Kirkwood finished unbeaten on 25.

On a tough day for the bowlers, Macintyre finished with 1/31, while Henderson took 1/40.

With Colts needing to play aggressively, Rhys Wagstaff and Harrison Kurzke were set in to bat.

Wagstaff, the second-leading runscorer coming in to Saturday’s play, was the key wicket, and Jacob Glen duly delivered in the early proceedings, bowling him for five.

Soon, Kurzke was next to go, run out by Logan Kirkwood for 16.

Dave Robinson and Rhys Egan were a key duo, with both of them in good batting form, and the two got themselves into a good rhythm, putting on 69 for the third wicket.

However, Jasper Trickey got in on the act, and was able to strike, with the Owls’ leading wicket-taker getting the wicket of Egan for 31, trapping him in front for LBW.

Robinson looked to continue his good form alongside Luke Tatchell, who was desperate to make runs, and Robinson was able to get himself up to 46 before Trickey had his second wicket, leaving Colts in trouble at 4/123.

Dayne Baker was brought to the crease, and along with Tatchell, was able to provide 31 for the fifth wicket, but he too would soon fall, with Jackson Goodwin coming on and bowling him for 10.

Goodwin struck again not long afterwards, trapping Grant Rogers in front for LBW for 12.

Through it all, Tatchell was putting together a fine innings, which saw him pass a well-deserved 50.

Macintyre was the last man to fall, going out to Liam Maffescioni for 12.

Tatchell finished unbeaten on 58 as Colts’ gallant run-chase finished with them making 7/218 off their 40 overs, with Riley Govan unbeaten on three at the other end.

Trickey led the way with 2/31 off six overs, while Goodwin finished with 2/33.
