Maryborough Harness Racing Club will be holding its second Easter meet, with a Monday meet slated next week.

After running the event on Good Friday in 2022, Maryborough Harness Racing Club’s Jackson Barby is hoping that the Easter Monday meet can be cemented at the forefront of harness racing in Victoria in the long term.

“It’s a good opportunity given it’s the first week of school holidays. There could be some people around who have come to Maryborough for the long weekend to catch up with family. We want to make

Easter Monday a day that families can circle in their calendar, come out and have a good day at the trots in Maryborough,” he said.

“It’s a day we are building into our racing calendar. Last year was the first time we raced on Easter. We have Easter Monday and we’re hoping to lock it into our calendar.

“Maryborough is a track that attracts high-quality participants and horses, and as a result, there’s always high-quality racing. It’s a track that a lot of people enjoy coming to with its family-friendly atmosphere. A lot of people in the industry enjoy visiting it.”

Barby said there will be entertainment on offer for families on the day, as well as high-quality races which will keep punters on their toes throughout the afternoon.

“We’ll have children’s entertainment, Easter giveaways with chocolates and some colouring as well. It will be an Easter theme and we want the kids to have a good day, but it’s also good for the parents to enjoy their lunch with our new menu and the action on the track knowing their kids are going to be well looked after and entertained,” he said.

Barby also acknowledged the work of the Royal Children’s Hospital with their Good Friday Appeal, saying that the Mary-borough Harness Racing Club wants to be a leader within Harness Racing Victoria for supporting the community during its Easter event.

“Harness Racing Victoria are keen to make an impact on donations for the Good Friday Appeal, and the amazing work of the Royal Children’s Hospital and what they do,” he said.

“We have members who have been affected with their child needing the services. They do a fantastic job. It’s important to us to have a good purpose and good reason to give back as much as we can. We’re keen on being a leader in supporting the Good Friday Appeal.”
