It was all in the family on Friday night at Maryborough’s vote count, as Aidan and Keely Hare both claimed their respective senior best and fairest counts in football and netball.
Both football and netball counts were thrilling right up to the last round, with three players in each grade still capable of winning the award.
In the senior team, Aidan’s superb year, yielding 36.4 disposals, 11 tackles and 8.7 clearances a game yielded 58 votes, enough to win from Kya Lanfranchi, who had an excellent year down back, polling 54 votes, with Thomas Gardam polling 51 votes to finish third.
Meantime, in A grade netball, Keely took three votes in Maryborough’s round 18 clash with Kyneton to take the award with the final vote of the night, with the reliable goal shooter scoring 23 votes to take the award from Eliza Roughead, who scored 21 votes, while Chrissy Hooper scored 18 votes to finish in third.
Matthew Berry was able to take the reserves best and fairest count with 34 votes, with Nic Swan second on 33 and Connor McLeish third on 27.
In B grade netball, Alex Williams was a convincing winner, with 31 votes, with Sharine Lanfranchi second and 15 and a tie for third between Corie Raymond and Katie Bilton on 13 each.
Likewise, Jai Howell was a runaway victor of the under 18 best and fairest, scoring 84 votes, with Tom Myers (47) and Lucas Hurse (31) rounding out the top three.
In B reserve, Celeste Lean also took out the count on the last vote, scoring 19 votes, with Grace Brady second on 18 votes and Ella Patten third on nine votes.
And in the 17 and under netball count, Abbey Nalder scored 23 votes to take the award, with Tali Chadwick second on 19 votes and Patten making it a double podium on the night with 16 votes.
