Avoca went down to the reigning premiers Harcourt at Avoca on Saturday by 74 points.

Although the scoreline indicates that it was a one sided game, the Bulldogs were reasonably happy with how much they had restricted the Lions from scoring as they were only 26 points down at half time.

Shaun Cudmore kicked the opening goal of the second half and reduced the margin to 19 points and the Bulldogs were thinking they were in with a chance.

However, Harcourt answered with the next four goals in succession, including two goals to Benny Leech, who finished with four goals for the game.

The final quarter was like the third term in that Avoca scored the first goal through Sean Moyle, but then the Lions again scored the next four goals in succession, including two goals to Brayden Vaz, who was unstoppable in taking many marks in the final term.

Vaz kicked three goals for the game and showed why he was included as one of the Lions better players.

The Lions took control with their run and carry in the second half and their fitness also showed as they ran all over the Bulldogs when needed.

The Lions named Jordan Gartside, Leech, Paul Chaplin, Chris Ling, Lachlan Mitchell and Vaz as their best players.

Avoca named Riley Hamilton, Clayton Winter, Byron Wynd, Bryce Howell, Tyson Gray and Cameron Antonio as their best players. Sean Moyle was also everywhere for the Bulldogs as always.
