CAMPBELLS CREEK 2.3 (15) def by HARCOURT 36.23 (239)
The Castlemaine Derby was very much a one-sided contest as Harcourt completely outpointed the home team in every aspect of the game to win by 224 points.
Former premiership coach Alex Code was on fire in front of goals kicking a bag of 10 for the game, as the Lions shared the goalkicking duties amongst 13 team members.
The Lions ran amok in the opening term kicking 17 majors to take a 103-point lead, but Campbells Creek responded impressively all things considered, holding the Lions to six goals in the second term to trail by 143 at the main break.
Harcourt came out and had a better third quarter, kicking nine goals to extend their lead to 204 points by the final change.
Creek were able to kick two goals in the final term, while also holding Harcourt to four majors in the last quarter.
While Creek was overcome in the first term, they still fought it out to the end and players such as Hadley Bassett, Tyson Williams, Justin Allison, Lachlan Hyland, Benjamin Carson and Luke Bennett were all named amongst their better players with Carson kicking the only two goals for the team.
Harcourt’s best was Mark Noonan, Benjamin Leech, Code, Bryce Frost, Kaleb McBride, and Baxter Gurd with five goals.
