Harcourt ended Trentham’s undefeated run to start 2023, and did it with an enormous final-quarter effort to overhaul the Saints.
It looked for the majority of the day like Trentham were able to have all the answers for the Lions, but Harcourt’s never-say-die attitude helped keep their season well and truly alive.
The Saints started off the better team when they scored 13 goals to the Lions’ eight in the opening quarter, and were able to extend the margin in the second quarter after scoring nine goals to eight.
But the Lions responded in kind during the third quarter, scoring 12 goals to 10 to reduce the margin to four goals by the final break.
With their season on the line, the Lions shifted up a gear, scoring 15 goals to the Saints’ nine to take a memorable victory.
The win now leaves Harcourt just one win outside of the top eight, while the Saints now drop to fourth as a result of the loss.
